I usually cross this plaza in the morning when there are few people walking around in the center of Madrid. I like to learn a little about the architecture and stories behind what I paint. Today I learned that Plaza Mayor is a fine example of the grandure of 17th Century Baroque Spain. I also learned that the uniformity, arcades, and decorative elements like balconies and slate roofs define its Baroque character. There’s nothing like painting Madrid.
