It was a pretty cold day 1º C. Sketching open air in the winter is still a lot of fun even though it’s cold. To stay warm, I wear a lot of layers. You can always peel off the layers if it gets to warm.

I had the pleasure of meeting S from Singapore. She draws and paint really well. She was interested in sketching some architecture. We walked around and stopped here in front of this interesting staircase.

S hadn’t sketched any buildings on site, so our goal for the day was to learn how to capture a site on paper with a not too difficult focus on perspective.

S was sitting down and I was standing up so you can see the different view points when the two sketches are next to each other.

The sitting down view point is lovely! It has a lot of strength and personality. She made a beautiful sketch and had a lot of fun doing it too. I know I had a lot of fun because there’s nothing like sketching Madrid.
Thank you for reading my little story and Merry Christmas!

August 8th was a really hot day, but a perfect day for a painting session in Retiro Park. I had a visit from New York, someone who wanted to learn a few tips about plein air painting and have an enjoyable experience at the same time. The Crystal Palace is the perfect place for a fun day painting

June is a really nice month for making a watercolor. The light is beautiful and and there are big shady trees. I painted this watercolor in June. It was a lot of fun. I wrote a little story about my experience. You can see it here by clicking on this link.
Getting in touch with outdoor painting is easy. You go early in the morning in cold weather. The autumn is beautiful in Madrid.

The winter is pretty chilly in Madrid. This is a view of Arco de Cuchillero from the Plaza Mayor. If you get up early enough, you can paint a nice watercolor in the city.
It was a chilly day, but lots of fun. There is nothing like painting in Madrid. Thank you for reading my little story. Victoria
